Fluoride has become a popular topic in the last few years.
After people became aware of fact that the government puts it in our public water supplies, many wanted to know more about the full effect that it has on our health. Some people praised it for it’s ability to protect our teeth from decay, while others pointed out that too much of it can actually harm our teeth and may have an adverse effect on our nervous system.
Regardless of your opinion on fluoride, sometimes it seems almost impossible to do something as simple as taking a sip of water without being exposed to it. This is why I’m going to show you a list of all of the bottled water brands that contain zero traces of fluoride, and a list of brands containing the most amount of fluoride, so you know which ones to buy when you want a fluoride-free beverage.
It is important to be informed about the health risks that fluoride rich products may cause.
Fluoride Side Effects
The excessive exposure to fluoride during this time can cause fluorisis, which is the most threatening health risk. Fluorosis represents a condition of full teeth decay and malformation.
This condition generally develops in the first eight years of a person’s life, when the teeth are most susceptible to growth and formation.
The symptoms are: teeth stains of different size and color (yellow, brown), teeth decay and cavities, as well as distorted tooth growth and development.
Additionally, other symptoms can be cognitive problems in children and IQ retardation.
One study conducted in China found that children who grew up in areas with high levels of fluoride in their drinking water scored, on average, considerably less on IQ tests compared to children in lower-fluoride areas.
According to senior study author Philippe Grandjean, this is due to the toxic effect that fluoride has on the developing brain.
“Fluoride seems to fit in with lead, mercury, and other poisons that cause chemical brain drain,” Grandjean says. “The effect of each toxicant may seem small, but the combined damage on a population scale can be serious, especially because the brain power of the next generation is crucial to all of us.”
