According to the new studies consuming high levels of fructose (from added sugars) harms incredible 940 brain genes. This nutrigenomic study is about the way how food affects gene expression and is made to show us exactly how food affects the way our bodies operate and are critical in understanding our relationship to food.
It is common known that consuming a diet high in sugar has lots of negative health consequences. Now thanks to this researchers we can see how added sugars change our brain in a negative way. The researchers discovered that 734 hypothalamic genes were altered as 206 hippocampal genes. These genes govern extremely important areas of the brain: cell metabolism, cell communication, inflammation, and overall brain function. As you can see these genes are not the ones you want to be altered in any way.
The Health and Sciences Academy,says “…certain alterations can lead to leptin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and brain diseases such as Parkinson’s, depression, and bipolar disorder.”
During this same study ,researchers also found that Omega-3 oil DHA “has the potential to normalize the genomic impact of fructose.” So if we include enough DHA in our diet we can offset the gene alterations caused by the added sugars. There is DNA in fish, fish oil supplements, some egg and dairy products like ghee.
RECOMMENDED: Avoid added sugar as much as possible,consume only the healthy substitute with lower sugar options (just avoid artificial sweeteners) and always read the labels on the products you use at home. As the extra tip for you we will tell you that sugar in fruits is not counted as added sugar so long as the entire fruit is consumed (not fruit juice).
